2024 Village of Camillus Newsletter
There have been several changes in our village during 2023 and many more to come in 2024. We have highlighted below many of these improvements.
Village Sanitary Sewers
This past summer, we received a grant of $30,000.00 to have our sewers televised. The results were not favorable. The village sewer system was constructed in 1931 and has deteriorated over time. There are several breaks/cracks in the piping system, and we have attached pictures of the current conditions – see page 3. These photos show only a portion of the breaks located on Elm Street and Main Street however there are several additional breaks in the village. Sewer repairs are very expensive to undertake. In the past 3 years, 3 repairs have cost the village $84,000.00. We have been charging $50.00 per year per household for our sewer fund, however we do not have enough accumulated to start to tackle the most serious breaks. Therefore, we have had to increase the sewer tax in 2024 to $300.00 per household to jump start fixing the sewers in early 2024. We anticipate that we will have to continue to charge this increase in future years until we can fix the most critical problems in the system. We will continue to search for grants in order to offset these costs.
TextMyGov
TextMyGov is a new type of communication between you, our residents, and the village. We initiated this in early 2023 with much success, however several of you have not taken advantage of this communication device.
On your personal electronic device (cell phone, Android, Apple, etc.), you will be able to receive text messages from the village concerning event notifications, holiday information, trash and recycling information, road information, etc. We will be sending out to you any information that we feel is important and that you would be interested in. You will also be able to text information to the village with any Village concerns.
To sign up, on your smartphone, send a text message to 91896 and in the message space, type in the following “CVALERTS”. You will receive a confirmation message asking you to reply “YES” to verify that you are joining. You will then start to receive text messages from us in the future when they are sent. You can also text the village by texting in the number 315-320-3353 and text “HI”. You can text STOP at any time to remove yourself from the notification line.
Munro Park
As you know, we have made significant improvements to the tennis courts in Munro Park. Thanks to 2 grants, we were able to restore one tennis court and convert the other tennis court into 4 new Pickle Ball Courts. We are also in line for another grant to replace the playground equipment and construct a new pavilion adjacent to the equipment. The current equipment is 35 plus years old and outdated. The proximity of the pavilion will enable parents to sit and watch the kids while they are enjoying the new equipment.
We recently were able to plant 10 new trees on the western side of the tennis/pickle ball court compliments of Cornell Co-op of Onondaga County. We have also applied to become a Tree City and pending is a 2-year grant for 100 new trees to be planted in the village.

If you do need to drain gray water, car wash water, etc. please pour the water onto your lawn or down household drains so it may be filtered before entering the water system.
MATTRESSES
OCRRA has begun charging for mattress disposal so the Village of Camillus has made the tough decision to pass the charge on to the residents. The cost for mattress disposal is $20 each with no charges for box springs at this time. If you have a mattress to dispose of please stop by the Village Hall or mail a check payable to the Village of Camillus and include your address. Once you have paid for your mattress(es), your address will be placed on the list for pick up for the number of mattresses you have paid for.
Mattresses not paid for and left by the curb will not be picked up until payment has been received. A notice will be placed on the resident’s door with instructions to contact the Village Hall to arrange payment and pick up.

OCCRA has discontinued the July battery collection (on top of trash cans) and will no longer mail collection bags to residents.
